The individuals selected for these Predictive Maintenance (PdM) Specialist positions will work closely with Reliability Engineers, Maintenance Engineers, and others to minimize equipment downtime and life cycle costs. They will use PdM technologies to identify equipment failures in early stages; thereby allowing maintenance to be performed on a scheduled basis. They will promote precision maintenance practices and use PdM technologies to evaluate the quality of repairs and installations. 

PdM Specialists are responsible and accountable for safely collecting, analyzing, and reporting on the general health of plant assets. Below is a list of duties they complete in order to achieve this goal:
• Perform, interpret data, and report on the following tasks:
 Vibration analysis inspections
 Tribology (oil analysis) inspections
 Infrared (thermal) inspections
 Ultrasonic testing
 Motor Current Evaluation (MCEmax) inspections
• Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations.
• Assist the Reliability Engineer when implementing RCM study findings.
• Assist craftsman during precision alignments and/or balancing tasks.
• Recommending repairs based on PdM data.
• Create requisitions and notifications in SAP when a need for maintenance has been identified.

Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:
• High School Diploma or higher required as well as at least one-year experience with two or more PdM technologies and a sound background in maintenance
• Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, and the ability to work with limited supervision
• An excellent safety work record and demonstrated safety behaviors
• Able and willing to work a schedule that supports the business needs (may include shift work, weekend work, and holiday work)
• Computer competency including basic Excel skills - basic formatting, formulas, charts/graphs and manipulation of data. Experience with SAP, DMSI and other PdM software desired

October 17, 2007   APPRENTICE LINEMAN - Acheson, Alberta

We presently have a vacancy in our Transmission Field Operations group for an Apprentice Transmission Lineman - North Transmission Crew, Acheson. This is an entry-level position for a prospective Transmission Lineman. Under the supervision of the Transmission Crew Manager and the direction of the Foreman and Lineman, the Apprentice Lineman is required to assist in the building, modifying or maintaining of all Transmission Line Facilities.  The North Transmission crew is responsible for maintaining lines in the northern part of AltaLink’s service area and there is a requirement to work away from crew’s regular from 1 to 3 nights per week.  On occasion longer durations away from home headquarters may be required.

Responsibilities
To function as a lineman–in–training, performing ground duties, assisting the lineman and /or foreman, receive instruction in the performance of Lineman duties (including learning to climb poles and towers), operate vehicles and equipment, perform any other related duties that may be required.
Assist in the performance of line maintenance in a safe and efficient manner where de-energized. Live Line Hot Stick or Live Line Bare hand techniques are utilized on voltages up to and including 500kV.
Assist in the stringing, sagging, tie in, dead-end and splicing of conductors tensioned or un-tensioned for all conductors including self-dampening (SD) conductors.
Respond to unscheduled outages as the result of weather, component failures, vehicular accidents, etc.
Physically capable of performing work from man-basket, buckets, helicopters, poles and towers.
Assist/learn the safe operation of heavy and tracked equipment including radial arm diggers, line truck, crane and Foremost as required.
Learn the safe operation and maintenance of hand tools as may be required for the job including blocks, grips, jacks, hot line tools and cover up, etc.
Maintain good public relations with individuals inside and outside the company.
Be a positive team member through open communication and active participation in crew tasks.
Maintain a keen sense of personal and group safety at all times and exercise appropriate caution when working with tension for rigging, on or close to energized equipment.


Qualifications
Class 5 Drivers License Class 1 or Class 3 with air endorsement would be an asset.
Minimum grade 12 Diploma; Math 20.
Good physical condition and manual dexterity, capable of passing the physical fitness requirements.
Capable of lifting objects greater than 25 Kg’s.
Mechanical ability.
Candidate must be a team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The candidate must be capable of working efficiently in both independent or team environment.
The ability to work at heights and in varying extreme climates.
