Mean Time Between Failure Discussion

Doesn’t Mean Time Between Failure seem like a strange metric to go by when some 70-90% of failures are supposed to fall into the Random Failure category?

Simple failure trending seems like a much better tool to spot emerging problems, especially those induced outside of your company such as parts suppliers sending problem parts that wind up installed in your system only to fail early and in groups.
