Journal Bearing Maintenance

I would like to get some opinions on journal bearing installations and procedures that everyone used when they replace one. Do you just take the old one out and slap the new one in and hit the start button or do you do additional tasks? I have by own opinions and policies, but I would like to see what others do.

Please be as descriptive as you can. Thanks.

Understanding Torque Measurements and Torsional Analysis

An iPresentation Tutorial by Jim Smith, IVC Technologies

Torsional monitoring and analysis can be a valuable tool when identifying shaft failure modes, understanding process parameters, or measuring the loading conditions to properly size spindles and couplings. Monitoring motor current can provide a reasonable measure of transmitted torque during steady state conditions, but cannot comprehend the torsional conditions during transient events such as startup, process changes, TAFs (Torque Amplification Factor), or intermittent process related events.

Torsional Monitoring can be used as an analytic tool for various problems such as:

-Failure Analysis
-Driveline Testing
-Torsional Vibration
-Torsional Resonances
-Gearbox Sizing
-Coupling and Spindle Sizing
-Torque Spilt Analysis
-Transient Testing

This 9 minute presentation explores some of the various areas that torque measurements and torsional analysis can provide solutions.

Change Management for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals

By Steve Thomas - Author Cultural Change for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals

Originally presented at IMC-2006 The 21st International Maintenance Conference on the web at
http://www.maintenanceconference.com

When we think about creating a reliability focused organization we tend to initially think about what needs to be changed. This process invariably leads one to determine that there are components of the current process that do not exist and hence have to be created, or if they do exist they may not be functioning to the level we would desire. For example in order to create a reliability focused organization a work planning and execution component would be required. More…
