SKF has acquired Precision Balancing & Analyzing (PB&A), Mentor, Ohio, USA and Monitek Australia, located in Brisbane, Australia. SKF is paying some SEK 60 million in total.

PB&A is specialized in the repair and upgrading of machine tool spindle mechanisms and has 40 employees with annual sales of USD 7 million. PB&A’s activities complement SKF’s spindle service operations and improve the geographical coverage of the US market.

SKF’s global certified spindle service network has now increased to 17 Service Centers, covering most industrialized manufacturing areas worldwide.

Monitek is a leading Australian predictive maintenance services company. It is a supplier of high quality vibration monitoring and wear debris analysis in the mining industry. Yearly sales amount to 4.3 Million Australian Dollars and the number of employees is 29.

August 16, 2006   FAA Defends Landing System Maintenance

Agency officials vow to diagnose and fix a glitch that has caused recent delays at LAX.

The Federal Aviation Administration defended its maintenance of a key landing system at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday and vowed to keep technicians working until they diagnose what caused the sensitive equipment to malfunction twice in one week.

The agency denied assertions by LAX officials after a brief outage Monday that there were systemic maintenance problems, saying the navigation aid is subject to rigorous, regularly scheduled testing and monitoring.

NEW YORK—Electricity experts have a message for thousands of New Yorkers exasperated by the blackouts that swept through the city in recent weeks: Get used to it.

The circuits that distribute power to homes and businesses in New York and other American cities are being pushed to their limits by rising demand for energy, and will probably continue to fail sporadically without billions of dollars in upgrades, experts said.

August 01, 2006   Naval Air Warfare Center Awards Electrophysics Contract For High Performance Infrared Cameras

Fairfield, NJ - Electrophysics announced that it has been awarded a second contract by NAVAIR Weapons Division, China Lake, for seven Emerald MWIR-InSb infrared cameras with an option to purchase one additional, to total eight. The cameras will be integrated into NAVAIR’s MANPAD program, designed specifically for force protection.
