June 22, 2007 Hi-L Technique
Now obtain useful surge information for high inductance windings such as DC motor fields, exciter stators, generator rotors, solenoids, brake coils among others. A new pulse forming circuit has been added to the AWA2.2 to supply the excitation signal needed. Historically it has been a challenge to detect turn-to-turn shorts on these types of high inductance windings. Often the signal would look similar to a ski slope instead of the sinusoidal wave pattern now seen with this technique. This advancement complements Baker Instrument Company’s standard Surge test sequence, providing increased capability in identifying shorted turns.

June 22, 2007 Thermography and Arc Flash
The first rule in any health and safety situation is the elimination of risk, Personal Protection equipment (PPE) should always be the last resort.
The use of Infrared inspection windows in any thermography program eliminates the risks associated with live inspections by ensuring that thermographers are not exposed to any energised components and as such can complete the infrared survey with minimum disruption to plant and services in standard workplace PPE.
By ensuring live infrared inspections are completed safely by one operator you can expect better ROI on infrared cameras and reduced risk of premature failure of plant through more frequent inspections.

June 22, 2007 IVC Technologies Offers Predictive Maintenance Awareness Training
• Are you thinking about starting a Predictive Maintenance Program at your facility?
• Not sure on how to get started?
• What metrics should we be capturing in order to understand if we are being successful or not?
IVC Technologies is here to provide answers to some of these common questions.
Goal is to educate the customer on what Predictive Technologies can and can’t do……………It’s not a magic catch all unless deployed and managed correctly.
Material is broken down into several different categories with the entire session lasting approximately 2 – 4 hours
• Failure Modes of Common Equipment
• Understanding the “Business Case” for establishing a reliability program.
• Metrics – If you cannot measure it….you cannot manage it!
• Reactive/PM/PdM/Proactive
• Technology – Who, What, When, Where, Why and How
If interested in having IVC Technologies conduct a training session at your site, please contact us at 1-800-525-1269 or…
June 15, 2007 Estimating Motor Life Using MCA Predictive Measurements
One of the keys to the implementation of a technology for PdM and Reliability is the ability to estimate how much time is left prior to equipment failure. In many cases, early detection of faults, and with the help of the application of this method, will allow for the reconditioning versus rewinding of electrical machinery.
The faults can be caused by a single problem or by a combination of problems. These include: Thermal, Mechanical, Electrical and Environmental conditions.
The Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) can act as an indicator as to the success of a motor maintenance program as well and can be used to view the health of the electric motor system. The Time to Failure software can be a helpful tool for you in deciding what action to take when a problem is emerging.

June 15, 2007 SDT170S+ Digital Leak Surveyor Kit
Compressed air leaks represent a tremendous opportunity for companies looking to cut energy costs.
Finding compressed air leaks in your noisy factory presents a challenge that is easily overcome by the SDT170S+ Leak Surveyor Kit.
The kit is designed with SAFETY FIRST in mind. A high sensitive airborne sensor is mounted inside the robust housing. Additionally the 21” Flexible Sensor is perfect for tight, hard to reach areas keeping inspector’s hands and arms a safe distance from rotating machinery. The Extended Distance Sensor “EDS” finds leaks in ceiling pipes at distances of 50’+ saving surveyors from climbing ladders and using scissor lifts. Leaks can be mapped on paper safely from the plant floor.
The 170S+ is digital to provide a dBµV measurement. Use the SDT Air Leak Cost Calculator to correlate the decibel of the leak to SCFM.
The kit is configured to provide maximum access to all piping locations in the plant while still being kind to all budgets.
