July 28, 2005   MaintainEX CMMS simplifies routine maintenance

Taking control of your Inspections routines is now even easier with the latest version of MaintainEX. This CMMS gives you flexibility in creating preventative maintenance plan that includes preventative maintenance policies, inspection routines and standard jobs. MaintainEX will allow you to create a maintenance plan to suit your needs.

MaintainEX Inspections provides effective centralized control over the equipment inspection process. It also enables the delivery of a mobile inspection system that guides operators through single or multiple inspections. Users customize inspection applications by defining their specific sets of inspection questions and answers. These questions and answers later guide the operator through the inspection runs and will automatically activate Work Orders based on results. With the addition of palm devices, there is no paperwork and no separate data entry, ensuring simplicity and efficiency.

MaintainEXV11 also includes new flexible functionality and expanded features ensuring that this CMMS delivers benefits to any size company - from stand-alone installations to multi-site regionalized organizations. Whether a maintenance operation services five or 50,000 pieces of equipment, the MaintainEX system gives users the power to take control, utilizing either MaintainEX Access or MaintainEX Enterprise SQL Server.

MaintainEXv11 is about simplifying routine maintenance, and this new version also includes a ToDo list for task control, streamlined electronic safety permit approvals, system regionalization, simplified security, multi-select functions and conditional formatting.

Maintenance Experts has been delivering maintenance efficiency to business operations since 1993. Now with over 3,500 system users across the globe, this company is providing solutions to virtually all industry sectors, including manufacturing plants, building facilities and maintenance contractors.

July 28, 2005   Hawk IR Sightglasses

Infrared Thermography has been used for detection of electrical problems in equipment such as electrical switchgear and high voltage electrical components for many years however you cannot obtain adequate or reliable information with an infrared camera without opening the enclosure and looking at the actual electrical components. Serious problems can sometimes exist without a significant temperature rise on the cover of the enclosure.

Hawk IR Sightglasses enable a safe visual, infrared and non-destructive inspection of internal areas of protected closed cells. Permanently fitted onto switchboards, transformer panels, motor lead boxes and cell doors. Hawk IR Sightglasses allow thermographers to clearly recognize thermal signature of problems during predictive maintenance without the need to open the enclosure.

The C-Range product line has successfully passed third party arc-fault tests with short circuit levels reaching 40,000A for a duration of 30 cycles making it the safest and most flexible IR Sightglass product on the market today.

July 21, 2005   Fluke Ti30™: Using Thermography to Make your PdM Program Pay Dividends

Part 3 of 4: Maximizing Your Return

In past issues, we discussed using the Fluke Ti30 thermal imager as part of a predictive maintenance (PdM) program, and analyzing the investment.

Once you have analyzed your program investment, consider how the program will save money. These typically include:
• reduced unnecessary preventive maintenance activities
• improved maintenance efficiency and reduced unplanned downtime
• reduced capital equipment expenditures due to increased life expectancy of capital equipment
• reduced or eliminated expenses for periodic thermographic inspections by outside consultants
• improved production efficiency and quality

To maximize return, spend time up front to lay out your thermal imaging inspection routes and frequency. These enable you to identify failure before it happens, and not spend time or money on unneeded maintenance that is based on time instead of performance. Your thermal imager will likely also be used as a troubleshooting tool, which can save yet more money by identifying imminent failure.

The Fluke Ti30 thermal imager is designed to deliver maximum return on that investment with full support for inspection routing in the camera and software. One upfront cost ($9,995 in US) includes the imager, all needed accessories, unlimited-license analysis and reporting software, and a professional two-day training class.

*training package varies by country

July 21, 2005   xmLABOR™, Labor Time Entry

Accurately track all maintenance labor time!
Used with your MicroMain XM™ CMMS (computerized maintenance management system), xmLABOR allows you to track not only labor time related to work orders, but also time spent on administrative tasks and break times. You can track the type of hours—including overtime, vacation or jury duty—as well.

With all hours accounted for in a day or a week, you can evaluate time spent on specific tasks and make better decisions regarding labor resources.

xmLABOR also allows you to secure transaction approvals before staff and contract labor submit their timesheets. These approvals can be used for compliance regulations, such as those required by the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA).

In addition to tracking time, you can use this software module to add parts, labor, or other costs to work orders. You can also easily generate labor-related reports, including time spent on work orders, administrative tasks, or other activities.

Affordable and easy to use, xmLABOR gives you complete control of labor time and helps simplify your labor management.

July 21, 2005   D450 value priced precision laser shaft alignment system

Precision shaft alignment has never been easier

Easy-Laser® D450 is a basic system, with the performance and expanding possibilities of much more expensive ones. In fact, with the right accessories your D450 system can become any other Easy-Laser® system!

The overall thought with the system is “simplicity for the user”. All parts included in the system are developed for rough use and to be easy to mount on the machines. As a user you are lead step-by-step on the display through the whole measurement procedure. Even if the technology inside is rather advanced, the principle for measurement is easy. It is built upon the “reverse indicator method” with two laser-/measuring units mounted on each side of the coupling.

In system D450 two measurement programs are included: Horizontal shaft alignment and Softfoot*. The displayed measurement resolution can be set down to 0.05 mils/thou. When the measurement is finished you can make a print-out, save in the display unit or transfer the data to your PC.
