April 15, 2005 Des-Case® Corporation introduces contamination control breather for mobile equipment
Prevent in-service lubricant degradation on high-vibration applications
Des-Case Corporation, an innovator of breather technology for industrial markets, today announced the extension of its product family with the launch of the Des-Case Disposable Steel breather. The sturdy DS breather prevents dirt and water from entering fluid reservoirs, providing the ideal solution for the management of lubricant condition in mobile equipment.
The patented design combines 1-micron filtration with the water adsorption capabilities of silica gel into one cost-effective package to effectively eliminate ingression of dirt and water through the filler/breather port. Featuring a rugged metal housing and stainless steel standpipe, the DC-DS breather is durable, resistant to vibration, and can withstand high temperatures.
“By design, off-road equipment tends to be exposed to large amounts of dirt and water in a high vibration environment,” said Jon Haworth, product development engineer at Des-Case Corporation. “Eliminating the potential for lubricant contamination, mobile equipment operators can simplify maintenance efforts.”
When only clean, dry air is breathed into the system, significant cost reductions are realized. Savings are evident not only through extended oil drain intervals, but also through prevention of premature component failure and by limiting rebuilds.
The unit is available with several adapter options, including a proprietary design feature for extreme humidity and high outflow applications, which creates a virtually sealed system. Like all Des-Case breather models, the disposable steel unit incorporates a field adjustable flow. Vent holes can be adjusted to meet the specific airflow requirements of the system. This controlled breathing mechanism provides longer desiccant life due to minimal moisture loading.
The disposable breather should be changed when the silica gel color indicator turns from blue to pink, visible through the indicator window—or—after one year of service.
April 15, 2005 New! SDT's AVM Ultranalysis Kit
Ultrasound inspection is one of the most important components of any predictive maintenance and reliability program. The demand for ultrasound technology is on the rise. Driving this demand is a need for inspectors to expand their inspections from basic condition monitoring to detailed diagnostics.
SDT’s Ultranalysis kit allows inspectors to listen to and record wave files from any ultrasonic inspection tool. Files are uploaded directly to PC via USB connection. Visualize ultrasound in the time and spectrum domain using SDT’s AVM Ultranalysis software (included).

April 15, 2005 The Maintenance and Reliability Professional Review Course at MARTS-2005
May 23-26, 2005
Rosemont (Chicago) IL
Part of the Maintenance & Reliability Technology Summit
The Maintenance and Reliability Professional Review is a 3-day course designed to provide comprehensive coverage of the skill sets included in the Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) exam. For those wishing to achieve certification as a CMRP, this course will provide a solid review of the best practice maintenance management techniques that the Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals Certifying Organization (SMRPCO) has developed as the international standard. Secondly, leaders of maintenance and reliability organizations will certainly gain valuable new insights to be applied within their operation for cost savings and improved operational performance.
The course is structured to discuss each of the 5 Pillars as outlined in the SMRPCO Body of Knowledge: Business & Management, Manufacturing Process Reliability, Equipment Reliability, People Skills and Work Management. The content will be presented in an fun and informal format, allowing maximum interaction and real-world examples of the concepts discussed. Attendees will experience exactly what is required to build a truly world-class maintenance program from the ground up, and how to avoid the common pitfalls and resistance to change that often occur.
Each attendee will receive a spiral bound course workbook, a 9-part outline booklet for construction of a new maintenance organization, access to the MasteringMaintenance.com online quizzes, and unlimited access to the MasteringMaintenance.com online discussion board. For more information about the course, please contact Dave Krings at http://www.MasteringMaintenance.com , (888) 230-5280 or by email at
